Chastain Arts Center (CAC) is an educational facility that offers classes, workshops, and exhibits in a variety of creative mediums. Established in 1968 as an arts center, the CAC is the oldest Arts Center in Atlanta. In addition to programs and classes, it has a gift shop of rotating handmade items, offers an annual summer camp, children’s birthday parties, and facility rentals. The CAC is located at 135 Chastain Park Avenue, NW.
The City Gallery at Chastain hosts exhibitions throughout the year that feature contemporary art by local and nationally recognized artists, adding to Atlanta’s unique cultural landscape. For more information, visit the Chastain Arts Center website or call (404) 252-2927.
The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Department of City Planning are collaborating to produce Memento Mori, an art exhibition that delves into themes of mortality and features programming about the Atlanta Cemetery Network (ACN). The project honors and spotlights artistic expression about mortality and raises awareness about the work of the ACN, particularly its focus on neglected and abandoned African American cemeteries.
All events will take place at the CAC and are free and open to the public. The opening reception will be Friday, August 15th from 5 to 8 PM, and the exhibit will be on view through October 17th. For a list of featured artists and a series of events, go to Memento Mori.
