The Atlanta Police Department (APD) Property Control Unit is open to the public for property and evidence release Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (see note) and is located at:

 

Public Safety Annex

Atlanta, Ga. 30331

 

*NOTE: Entry to the Public Safety Annex closes at 3:30 PM, with service areas remaining open until 4:00 PM.                                                                       


PROPERTY RETENTION POLICY: 90 days, then destroyed or auctioned.

 

Property Pick Up

To pick up your property, you must present the following (see Firearms section below if you are retrieving a gun):

• Valid Picture Identification – Current driver’s license, state issued ID, military ID, passport, or school ID.
• Completed form provided by the Property Control Unit.

 

To pick up someone else’s property, you must present:  

• Valid Picture Identification – Current driver’s license, state issued ID, military ID, passport, or school ID.
• Completed form provided by the Property Control Unit.

• Notarized Authorization Letter – Must include owner’s name, recipient’s name and a complete description of property to be picked up.


NOTE: If your property was turned in with the category of “evidence”, APD cannot release your items unless:

• The arresting officer signs for your release OR
• You present a court order demanding the release of your specific property (court dispositions are not accepted).


Firearms Pick Up

All individuals picking up a firearm must first pass a background check. No exceptions.

 

The following items are required to pick up a property firearm:

• Valid Picture Identification – Current driver’s license, state issued ID, military ID, or passport.
• Social Security Number.
• Original sales receipt or other documentation proving ownership of weapon.

 

To pick up evidence firearms you must present:

• Valid Picture Identification – Current driver’s license, state issued ID, military ID, or passport.
• Social Security Number.
• Original sales receipt or other documentation proving ownership of weapon.

• Officer Permission – The arresting officer must first approve the release of your firearm by converting its status from evidence to property. OR
• Court Order – You must present a court order demanding the release of your weapon (court dispositions not accepted).

SEIZURES (FIU)
If your property/vehicle has been seized by the Financial Investigations Unit (FIU) you may check the status by calling (404)-546-4275
