The Department of City Planning encompasses four offices:

• Office of Buildings – Ensures the advancement of the City of Atlanta aligns with responsible improvement and safely built structures. The Office of Buildings authorizes activities like construction, tree removal, sign placement and technical work.

• Office of Design – Responsible for the physical design of the city and historic preservation.

• Office of Housing and Community Development – Focuses on producing affordable housing policy and revitalizing existing neighborhoods.

• Office of Zoning and Development – Enforces the zoning ordinance for new development and renovations. The Office of Zoning and Development accepts applications involving issues such as rezoning, variances, special use permits, special administrative permits, and subdivision.
