The Atlanta BeltLine has a long-standing partnership with the Atlanta Police Department (APD). In 2013, APD formed the Path Force, a dedicated unit of 15 officers and 3 supervisors, who are dedicated to patrolling the Atlanta BeltLine trails, as well as the adjacent parks and neighborhoods.
Security cameras have been installed along the Eastside and Westside Trails. The security cameras tie into APD's citywide Video Integration Center. Mile markers are tied into APD and EMS for emergency response coordination. All future trails built in the Atlanta BeltLine corridor will also include surveillance cameras, mile markers, and lighting.
Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) incorporates CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) philosophies in detailed trail and park designs that strive to eliminate "hidden areas" and create visibility. ABI also works with APD to address federal concerns associated with vehicular access.
