The City of Atlanta is divided into 25 Neighborhood Planning Units (NPU) which are citizen advisory councils that make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on zoning, land use, and other planning-related matters.
Meetings –
Each NPU holds monthly meetings that are open to the community. Meeting time/location and agendas are posted on the Department of City Planning, Office of Zoning and Development (OZD), NPU website (link below). Agendas are usually posted on the website at least 5 days before the meeting and will list all presenters, OZD applicants, and the flow of the next meeting. NPU contact information is included in the agenda. NOTE: The Board of Zoning Adjustment and the Zoning Review Board have a policy of deferring any case on which the NPU has not had an opportunity to make a recommendation. To determine which neighborhood meetings must be attended, OZD applicants should get in touch with the NPU contact person within two days of filing an application with OZD. If unable to reach the NPU contact person after a week, call the Department of City Planning, Office of the Commissioner, at the number shown below.
Designated NPU –
Residents can determine which NPU they belong to by utilizing the Department of City Planning Geographic Information System (GIS), Property Information website (link below).
