Residents or civic associations may request the creation of a residential parking permit zone by submitting a written request to the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT). The request must include an explanation of why the parking permit zone is needed. Additionally, the request submission must include an ATLDOT petition form with the signatures of at least 70% of the residents on each of the initial blocks that desire permit parking.

ATLDOT will evaluate the request to confirm that boundaries of the proposed permit area have been established and then notify the resident or civic association of its decision. If approved, the appropriate signs will be installed and permits issued to residents requesting such permits. The entire process takes approximately six months to one year.
