The Department of City Planning has moved to a completely electronic process for permit applications and issuance. For step-by-step instructions on the process, please review the Digital Permit Submissions guidelines (link below).
A permit is required to install, repair or replace any electrical, plumbing or HVAC equipment. This is applicable to both commercial and residential projects. Applications may be submitted online via the Accela Citizen website (link below). Homeowners may submit their own permit application. There is no need to wait for the contractor to do so.
Trade permits are processed by the Office of Buildings, Trade Permits Division, located at –

Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday, 8:15 AM – 5:00 PM
NOTE: If a resident’s electrical service has been disconnected for six months or more, Georgia Power will refer the resident to the Office of Buildings, Trade Permits Division, to obtain a “Public Utility” permit before activating service.
