Background checks can be obtained Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

*NOTE: Entry to the Public Safety Annex closes at 3:30 PM, with service areas remaining open until 4:00 PM.                                                                                     

A $10 non-refundable fee is applicable, per request. Acceptable forms of payment are money orders or cashier’s checks made out to the City of Atlanta. No other form of payment is accepted.

Valid identification is required to process all services with the Identification Unit. Identification cards that have expired will not be accepted. Valid forms of identification include:

   • Drivers’ license or state identification card

   • Passport

   • Military identification

   • Immigration card (green card)

   • Birth certificate with valid ID

Criminal history requests can also be mailed to 3493 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy, ATTN: Atlanta Police Identification Unit, Atlanta, GA 30331.  Requests must include a notarized APD Form 928 Criminal History/Arrest Record Request Form, photocopy of a valid ID, and $10.00 money order.

NOTE: Criminal histories for individuals other than yourself are exempt from release through open records.
