The Urban Design Commission (UDC) nominates and regulates buildings and districts that are designated as historic buildings or sites, landmark buildings or sites, conservation districts, historic districts, or landmark districts.
Meetings and Agendas–
Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. Meeting time/location and agendas are posted on the Department of City Planning, Office of Design website (link below).
Project Application Review–
Applications for Certificates of Appropriateness are posted on the Office of Design website (link below). The normal review time frames for a submitted application are as follows:
• Type II (Regular), Type III and Type IV (Threat to Public Health) – 25 calendar days from the meeting submission deadline
• Type I and Type II Staff Review – Typically 2 calendar days from the submission of the application, but no more than 14 days
• Type IV (Economic Return) – 35 calendar days from the meeting submission deadline
• Review & Comment – 25 calendar days from the meeting submission deadline
Submit applications via the Department of City Planning website and through Accela Citizen. *NOTE: When staff is available, "pre-application" meetings can be arranged by appointment. In some historic or landmark districts or buildings, work that does not require a building permit may require a review by the UDC or Office of Design.
