City of Atlanta's arborists in the Department of Parks and Recreation inspect and approve the removal of trees on City of Atlanta property, on park lands, and or in the public right-of-way.

A public tree may be located between the sidewalk and the street. If no sidewalk is present and there is a question regarding public tree versus private tree, call the Department of Parks and Recreation. The City of Atlanta does not remove trees on private property.

A tree removal permit application is required for citizens and contractors to remove trees located on public property and in the public right-of-way.

If trees are not dead, dying, diseased or hazardous, a tree replacement plan is required.
