Flow monitoring is the collection of data from rain gauges, flow meters, stream water quality and weather stations for the purpose of sewer flow measurement, engineering assessments, sewer system evaluation, and flood prevention.

The Department of Watershed Management (DWM) Flow Monitoring Division is responsible for generating the data for contractual obligations and regulatory deliverables. The data from remote stations is relayed to the DWM data center through cellular communications. Data is transmitted from each station at daily and sometimes minute intervals.
